4-Day Diani Beach
Overview
This is the itinerary we build for guests who want the coast to be a proper stay rather than a rushed final night before a flight. Diani sits south of Mombasa, a long stretch of white sand backed by palm groves, with a coral reef close enough offshore to keep the lagoon calm and give snorkelling that doesn't require a boat to reach good coral. Four days gives you two full days with nothing scheduled beyond what you choose, on either side of a slower arrival and departure.
Most guests take this as the back half of a longer Kenya trip, landing at Ukunda airstrip on the edge of Diani straight from an inland safari, but it stands on its own just as well for anyone who wants a beach week without the game drives. Either way, the pace here is deliberately different from the bush: nothing starts before you're ready for it to.

Arrival in Diani
However you're arriving, whether flying direct into Ukunda or landing at Mombasa's Moi International and crossing the Likoni ferry south, we have you met and transferred to your beachfront accommodation. The rest of the day is yours: most guests do nothing more strenuous than a walk on the sand and a sundowner before dinner.

Reef and lagoon
A full day built around the water: we arrange a snorkelling trip out to the reef, where the coral and reef fish are within easy reach of the boat, or a scuba introduction for anyone certified or wanting to try a first dive. Snorkelling gear is provided; for diving we work with a PADI-affiliated operator on the beach and can arrange lessons for beginners.

Dhow sailing and free time
A traditional dhow sail along the coastline in the morning, a slower, quieter way to see the shoreline than from the beach, often with a stop for fishing or a swim off the boat. The afternoon is unstructured, whether that means the pool, the sand, or simply staying in the shade with a book.

Departure
A final relaxed morning before checkout, then a transfer to Ukunda airstrip or, via the Likoni ferry, on to Moi International Airport in Mombasa, timed to your onward flight.

Best time to visit
December through March and July through September are driest, with the calmest seas for snorkelling, diving and the dhow trip. The coast is warm and swimmable year round; the long rains through April and May bring the wettest weather and choppier water.
Common questions
Do we need a separate visa for the coast, or does our Kenya e-Visa cover it?
Your Kenya e-Visa or entry permit covers the whole country, including Diani; there is no separate visa or border process for the coast. It's the same document you'd use for a safari elsewhere in Kenya.
What is the Likoni ferry, and does it add much time?
It's the free vehicle and foot ferry crossing the channel between Mombasa Island and the south coast, the route most road transfers to Diani use. It runs constantly, but can queue for anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour at busy times of day; we build a buffer into transfer timings for exactly this reason, and flying direct to Ukunda airstrip avoids it entirely.
Is snorkelling gear provided, or do we need our own?
We provide mask, snorkel and fins for the included reef trip. If you have your own and prefer the fit, bringing it is fine; either way nothing extra needs arranging before you travel.
Can this be booked as a standalone trip, or does it need to follow a safari?
Either way. Most guests add it onto the end of an inland itinerary, but it works perfectly well as a beach trip on its own if that's all you're after.
