Overview
Diani lies on the Kenyan coast south of Mombasa, a long stretch of white sand backed by palm groves and coral rag forest, with a coral reef running close to shore that keeps the lagoon calm and shallow for most of its length.
The reef and the warm, clear water make Diani a natural base for snorkelling, diving and dhow trips out along the coastline, a different pace entirely from the bush, and a welcome change of scenery after several days on game drives.
It sits close enough to Mombasa's Moi International Airport to be added onto the end of almost any inland itinerary without losing a full travel day, which is why it is the most common beach extension we build onto a Kenya safari.

Best time to visit
Good year-round; December through March and July through September are driest, with the calmest seas for swimming and diving.
Getting there
Roughly 45 minutes by road south of Mombasa's Moi International Airport, or a short scheduled flight direct to the Ukunda airstrip on the edge of Diani.
